Engineers looking to explore new career opportunities in South Wales’ fast-growing compound semiconductor sector are being encouraged to apply for the Pathway into Semiconductors programme, a fully funded three-day initiative designed to support career transitions into the industry.
Developed for professionals from sectors including the armed forces, automotive, aviation and manufacturing, the programme provides an introduction to the compound semiconductor industry and the opportunities available across the CSconnected cluster.
Taking place from 17-19 November 2026, the programme will combine industry insight with practical experience. Participants will gain an understanding of the semiconductor supply chain, learn how their existing skills can be applied to semiconductor roles, and explore the range of engineering careers available within the sector.
The programme also includes hands-on activities, visits to semiconductor facilities, and opportunities to meet employers, recruiters and learning and development professionals from organisations across the CSconnected cluster. Participants will additionally have access to continuing professional development (CPD) short courses covering topics such as compound semiconductor electronics and photonics.
Delivered in person at the CS² Compound Semiconductor Community Space in Newport and Cardiff University, the programme offers participants a unique opportunity to experience the sector firsthand while building valuable industry connections. Free transport between Cardiff and Newport will be available for those wishing to use the service.
Funded through UKRI’s Place Based Impact Acceleration Account project, the programme is free to attend and aims to help address skills needs within one of the UK’s most innovative and strategically important technology sectors.
Applications are now open, with a deadline of 17:00 on Friday 30 October 2026. As places are limited, organisers reserve the right to close applications early should demand exceed capacity.
