Semiconductor Opportunities Highlighted at UK Science Investment Summit

Peter Smowton, Director, joined industry and government leaders this week to discuss the UK’s modern industrial strategy and the growing opportunities within the semiconductor sector. The discussion took place during the UK Global R&D and Science Investment Summit, held on 8–9 June at the Royal Society as part of London Tech Week.

The panel brought together key figures from across the innovation landscape to explore how semiconductors can drive economic growth, strengthen supply chains, and position the UK as a global technology leader. Alongside Peter Smowton, speakers included Professor Chris Johnson, Chief Scientific Adviser at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology; Caroline O’Brien, CEO of the Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult; Josh Western, CEO and Co-Founder of Space Forge; and Dr Alastair McInroy, CEO of Technology Scotland.

The session highlighted the importance of collaboration between industry, academia, and government in shaping a competitive semiconductor ecosystem and supporting the UK’s long-term industrial ambitions.
