The Institute for Compound Semiconductors (ICS) at Cardiff University has announced the launch of a new business-facing service portal, marking a significant step forward in improving access to its facilities and expertise.
The portal has been developed with funding from the South Wales Compound Semiconductor Place Based Impact Accelerator and designed by their IT Manager Garin Hughes. It aims to streamline engagement with industry and academic partners, both within and beyond the CSconnected cluster.

The new platform introduces a more efficient and user-friendly way for organisations to connect with ICS, providing a comprehensive overview of available capabilities alongside a simplified enquiry system. This is expected to enhance collaboration opportunities and make it easier for businesses to access specialist semiconductor services.
In addition to improving the customer-facing experience, the portal also incorporates a robust suite of internal tools to support day-to-day operations within the ICS cleanroom. These include systems for equipment booking, invoice management, and chemical inventory tracking, helping to ensure smooth and efficient facility management.
A key feature of the platform is the customer-facing project dashboard, which provides users with real-time insights into their activity. This includes the ability to monitor usage, track spending, and review work in progress. Customers can also request updates directly through the system, increasing transparency and strengthening communication between ICS and its partners.
The launch reflects ICS’s ongoing commitment to innovation, collaboration, and skills development within the compound semiconductor sector, reinforcing South Wales’ position as a leading hub for advanced semiconductor technologies.
